| Clearwater River |
Located near the towns of Orofino and Lewiston, the Clearwater River is home to the world’s largest steelhead and salmon fish hatchery. The Clearwater is not only famous for it large B-Run Steelhead, but also for its history as a piece of the Lewis & Clark Trail and its natural beauty. The North Fork of the Clearwater River flows from the Idaho-Montana border westward to Orofino then it joins the Snake River further west at Lewiston.
Idaho’s Clearwater River holds some of the largest B-run Steelhead in the nation. The average Clearwater Steelhead weighs between 10 – 16 pounds with many over 20. These fish are larger because they usually spend 2 to 3 years in the ocean before returning inland to the Clearwater River hatcheries and tributaries.
